VMware Recertification

Staying up-to-date on the latest VMware technologies and trends is vital in the IT industry. You must ensure your skills are current in order to keep the value of your VMware certification. Recertification is a beneficial element of continuing professional development as it displays commitment to your career. By becoming recertified, you will increase your chances of better compensation and career advancement.

VMware Certified Professional Recertification Policy

All VCP level certifications -- VCP-DCV, VCP-Cloud, VCP-Desktop -- that were earned before March 10, 2013 must be recertified by March 10, 2015. Any VCP2, VCP3, VCP4, or VCP5 certification can be recertified during this period by simply taking a current VCP or VCAP exam (however, you must still meet all current requirements for the VCAP exam). Certifications awarded after March 10, 2013 have two years during which they need will to recertify.

The VMware Recertification Policy provides four options for becoming recertified:

  1. Take the current exam for your existing VCP certification solution track
  2. Earn a new VCP certification in a different solution track.
  3. Advance to the next level by earning a VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification.
  4. Renew your current VCP5-DCV by completing a limited-time, streamlined exam based on material between the vSphere 5.0/5.1 and vSphere 5.5 exams.

VMware encourages growth into new knowledge areas by allowing you to renew your existing VCP certification by passing a different VCP or higher-level certification.

When your certification is due to expire, you will be notified with the email address that is associated with your MyLearn account. You can also find the dates your certification is valid on your transcript. Your certification will be revoked if you fail to recertify by the required date. Revocation means that you will lose access to the VCP portal and the right to use the VMware certification logos. Your transcript will also reflect that your certification is no longer valid.
