ITIL Foundation v3 (ITILFV3)


Course Overview

The purpose of the ITIL® V3 Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is to obtain knowledge of the ITIL® terminology, structure and basic concepts and to comprehend the core principles of ITIL® practices for Service Management. The ITIL® Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is not intended to enable the holders of the certificate to apply the ITIL® practices for Service Management independently. Candidates can expect to gain competencies in the following upon successful completion of the education and examination components related to this certification.

  • Key Concepts (Awareness)
  • Selected Processes (Awareness)

  • ITIL Qualification scheme (Awareness)

EXAMINATION PREPARATION: Example examination questions with opportunities to review and discuss the answers will be presented throughout the course.

CRITERIA FOR CERTIFICATION: A pass mark of 65% (26 out of 40) is required in the examination taken at the end of the course. Results are received direct from the Examining Board within 2-3 weeks.

Who should attend

The target group of the ITIL® V3 Foundation certificate in IT Service Management is:

  • Individuals who require a basic understanding of the ITIL® framework and how it may be used to enhance the quality of IT service management within an organisation.
  • IT professionals that are working within an organisation that has adopted and adaptedITIL® who need to be informed about and thereafter contribute to an ongoing service improvement programme.

This may include but is not limited to, IT professionals, business managers and business process owners.


There are no formal criteria or pre-requisites for candidates wishing to attend an accredited ITIL® Foundation course, though some familiarity with IT terminology and an appreciation of their own business environment is strongly recommended.

The course is based on the Office of Government Commerce (OGC’s) ITIL® V3 core books in the IT Infrastructure Library. Each of the 5 core books are examined in turn and their relationships explained. The course is designed with the objective of giving a sound understanding of new V3 core books. It also prepares the candidate for the examination that leads to the ITIL® V3 Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management.


Candidates will be issued with a set of course notes and supporting documentation.
